The middle of Eastern Europe.

Serbia is still known for having been Yugoslavia and playing a large role in the Balkan Conflict of the 1990's. Today, it's safe and good for travel.

I visited for a week on my Global Cycling Tour. It's not terribly exciting or beautiful, but there aren't many tourists, and Belgrade is a fun city. Prices are cheap. There are also fields of sunflowers for miles and miles. A nice place in midsummer.
