romania
July 2014
Dark, mountainous, and amazingly friendly.
Romania is mostly known in Europe for being a country that everyone wants to leave to work elsewhere. Dire economic conditions aside, for the traveller, this country is a paradise. Many people speak multiple languages, including English. There are more gorgeous mountains than anyone would expect. Castles, ancient town squares, and wonderfully low population density and open spaces prevail.
I spent three weeks in this country as part of my Global Cycling Tour, entering from Serbia and exiting into Bulgaria. Everyone is a character, in a good way, and I can't say enough good things about this misunderstood nation.
