June 2024
A well-run and eminently likeable nation.
Who hasn't heard of the Netherlands? It's a geographically tiny country, but well-known for having one of the highest qualities of life on earth. The country is extremely clean, well-organized and modern, yet still retains plenty of 'old world' charm. Bike lanes are everywhere, the Dutch are friendly, well-traveled and open, and the countryside is basically a garden of pretty plants and farms.
Admittedly, it's extremely densely populated, and the population continues to grow and occupy the shrinking amounts of open space. There's quite a bit of traffic, parking is a nightmare in some places, and everything is stunningly expensive.
We visited for a week in June 2024. After seeing Amsterdam, the Hague, a few coastal walks and some centuries-old windmills, we went to a Rammstein concert in Nijmegen. It's a country I feel I could easily live in. Maybe someday!
