Kosovo
July 2014
A war-torn semi-country being rebuilt.
Kosovo has a troubled recent past, and possibly a troubled near-future. For now, however, tensions are not too high, and the country loves Americans (America played a vital role in ending the most recent conflict). I spent a week crossing the country and seeing Pristina during my Global Cycling Tour.
It's pretty poor, and I can't say the towns are very nice. The mountains are gorgeous, but filled with landmines. Traffic can be horrendous, and it's getting to be too overpopulated, due to having one of the highest birth rates in Europe. In short, there's no good reason to visit, which makes it all the more attractive to the determined traveller.
