Eswatini
May 2014.
Solitary encounters with wild animals on foot.
Eswatini, or Swaziliand when I visited, provides a ton of opportunities to go find big game on foot. Fortunately, there are no lions.
I spent a week here, in several national parks, camping and exploring on foot. The walks I did were totally solo, and I was within spitting distance of a number of large animals, including wild hippos.
It was here where I was repeatedly charged by an aggressive warthog while camping. I stood my ground each time, and he (she?) feigned left or right at the last second. When attacked by most wild animals, you'd best not turn and run.
