A beautiful Balkan nation with a dark recent past.

Mention Bosnia, and everyone thinks of the war. Indeed, there are still ethnic tensions, and another war is not impossible.

I visited for two weeks on my Global Cycle Tour. It's a land of stunningly beautiful mountains filled with landmines, of rivers lined with mass graves, and of ancient cities plagued by war. 

Today, it's totally safe, cheap and has plenty of adventure for the traveller.
